St. Jean Eudes, the devotion the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Rosary

August 19 is the feast of St. John Eudes the great apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Since August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, click here to read an article about St. Jean Eudes, this devotion, and the Rosary.

A Latin hymn on the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary has the following:

Eia, Parens, cor supplicum intra pium serva sinum;
amore Nati langueat, amore Matris ferveat.
Ah, Mother keep the heart of suppliants near your merciful heart;
may it seek after the love of your Son
and may it glow with love for His Mother.

The feast of St. Jean Eudes gives us this stanza of a hymn:

In Corde Christi caritas quae flagrat atque Virginis,
tu concipis, tu percolis, cunctisque sollers praedicas.
The charity which burns in the Heart of Christ and of the Virgin,
you understand, you honor, and with skill you preach to everyone.

Scriptis, loquelis, actibus es forma factus omnium,
Dei ministros maxime, docens superna quaerere.
In writings, speaking, and actions you have been made a model for all,
especially the ministers of God, teaching them to seek the things of heaven.
